It is Sunday morning here in Phu Quoc. The end of our weekend off is coming to a close as we prepare to head back to the ferry and back to Rach Gai.

Where have I been all week? Working.
I haven't been journalling so in lieu of that here is a very quick picture of what has been going on.

Monday we flew into Rach Gai and met our host, toured the GV offices here, settled into our hotel and had a welcome dinner with some of the GV team. We had to leave the hotel at 4am to catch the flight--only one per day so we were tired.

Tuesday was a one hour commute by boat to the build site. We spent the day digging trenches for the foundation and worked on some rebar.

Wednesday was putting the finishing touches on the trenches--which took a large part of the day and more rebar. We poured the bottom layer of the foundation and moved a lot of stones off a small boat and to the job site. A few people enjoyed the rebar--some didn't. I still like digging holes and passing bricks.

Thursday was time to mix cement and pour the moulds for the foundation. I really enjoy this type of work but it is very hot and heavy. The end of the day we visited the local school--smelly and very dirty.

Friday was time to lay the first few layers of bricks on the foundation and finish pouring the couple of spots that were not completed the day before. A quick thank you from the local womens union and a small presenation of a new wok to the home owner and our work at this house was done.

Habitat was very pleased with the amount of work we completed. Foundation dug, poured and lower level bricked...we met our goal for the week.

We took a ferry to Phu Quoc Island on Saturday morning and had some R&R time. A few headed right to the beach and a couple of us went on a small tour. I went on the tour to visit two pearl farms and a peppercorn farm. Very interesting stuff--wait until I do the write ups.

The times of all the attractions are against us and as there is only one ferry time we leave about 24 hours after we arrive. Back to Rach Gai by 4:30pm to check back into the Hotel Hen Ry and find some supper before we start work again on Monday.

Last weeks one hour (each way) boat commute is going to be missed as we pile into a bus for a 30 minute commute this coming week.
